The NACWAA Board of Directors consists of 15 members and three ex-officio members whose responsibility is to support the organization’s mission, values and purpose; ensure adequate resources, legal and ethical integrity; and maintain accountability.

Julie Hermann is in her 15th year in athletic administration at the University of Louisville. Hermann's primary responsibilities are supervising sports (men's and women's soccer, track and field, cross country, swimming and diving, tennis and golf, women's basketball, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, rowing and softball), Student Development, Sports Medicine, Sports Performance, Marketing, Development and the Academic Unit as well as serving as the Senior Woman Administrator.

Hermann has served on numerous local and national boards and committees including the Center for Women and Families, Women 4 Women, Metro Parks, Frazier Rehab Institute, YMCA, the Louisville Sports Commission, the Kentucky Sports Commission, the Commission on the Status of Women, the AVCA Hall of Fame selection committee, the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee serving as Chair and the National Association of Collegiate Women's Administrators.

Prior to joining U of L, Hermann was with USA Volleyball as a Technical Assistant, helping the World University Games team to a silver medal in 1997. Before joining the National Team, Hermann served as the Head Volleyball coach at the University of Tennessee and Northern Arizona and was an assistant coach at the University of Georgia and the University of Wyoming. Hermann was an All-Big Eight volleyball player at the University of Nebraska from 1981-84 as the Huskers won four conference championships and played in four consecutive NCAA tournaments earning a pair of top 5 finishes.

Robin Harris became The Council of Ivy Group Presidents’ second full-time Executive Director on July 1, 2009.

Harris came to the Ivy League Office after seven years at Ice Miller, LLP, based in Indianapolis. At Ice Miller, she served as senior counsel and co-chair for Ice Miller's Collegiate Sports Practice. Prior to Ice Miller, Harris worked nine years in increasingly responsible roles in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), ending her tenure at the NCAA national office as associate chief of staff for Division I. In that role, she provided advice and guidance to the NCAA president, Executive Committee, Division I Board of Directors, Division I Management Council and other committees in nearly all athletic governance areas. From 1993-1998, Harris was the NCAA’s director for the Committee on Infractions.

Harris is a graduate of the Duke University School of Law, where she served as editor of the Duke Law Journal. She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from Duke.

She is or has been a member of numerous professional associations, including the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), National Association of College and University Attorneys (NACUA) and National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC). Harris is also on the Board of Governors of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, serving as one of two NCAA representatives. Harris is also the author of several articles on issues related to intercollegiate athletics and a noted speaker.

She is married to Max Harris, a native of Manhattan, Kan. The couple has two children, twin daughters Alexandra and Vanessa.

A national leader in Division III athletics, Susan Bassett is committed to the philosophy that competition and physical fitness are an integral part of the higher education experience. Since being named Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation in July 2005, Bassett has utilized her experience and passion to make Carnegie Mellon University one of the country’s most comprehensive and progressive Division III programs.

During Bassett’s tenure, the student-athletes at Carnegie Mellon have excelled on and off the playing fields. With a cumulative grade-point average that outpaces the general student body, Carnegie Mellon’s student-athletes have received national recognition for their success in the classroom.

Carnegie Mellon’s intercollegiate teams have reached new heights under Bassett’s leadership, as the Tartans have won seven University Athletic Association titles in six sports during her tenure. Additionally, the Tartans have earned 22 team bids to NCAA Championships and qualified numerous individuals for national competition since her arrival.

Bassett has focused much of her attention on facility improvement. In 2006, the playing surface at Gesling Stadium was replaced with state-of-the-art FieldTurf, and last summer Bassett spearheaded an effort to construct a new playing field used for intramurals, club sports and intercollegiate soccer.

Bassett was named the 2010 Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year for the Central Region of the United States. Bassett is a former Division III Swimming Coach of the Year and is a member of the Ithaca College and Union College Halls of Fame.

Vicky Chun is the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator at Colgate University, an NCAA Division I FCS institution. She was a member of the 1997 NACWAA/HERS class, completed the NCAA/NACWAA Leadership Enhancement Institute in 2009 and Executive Institute in 2011. Chun’s primary responsibilities at Colgate include overseeing personnel management, facilities, corporate sponsorship, marketing, promotions, and event operations for athletics.

She was recently named Chair of the Patriot League Sports Management Council and serves as the administrative liaison for Daktronics Sports Marketing, ECAC Hockey, Patriot League Committee on Athletic Administration and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition, Chun has administrative duties and supervision of men’s lacrosse, women’s ice hockey, and volleyball, and she assists the Director of Athletics with women’s basketball, men’s ice hockey and sports medicine.

At the national level, Chun serves on the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Committee and on the NCAA Peer Review for Recertification. She also recently graduated from the NCAA Fellows Program.

Kim Chandler begins her 23rd year in intercollegiate athletics with administrative, coaching and teaching experience with programs at the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. As a result of the culmination of her work, she received the prestigious NACWAA Administrator of the Year award for Division III in October 2009.

Chandler begins her fourth year as the Director of Athletics at Macalester College, a private, highly-selective, liberal arts institution located in St. Paul, Minn. The Scots are a NCAA Division III institution and a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Chandler’s duties include the oversight and management of twenty-one men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletic teams.

Chandler was elected and also serves as the Vice President for the National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators. She has served as a member of the NACWAA faculty since 2005 at the NCAA/NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement and Leadership Enhancement Institute with presentations on “Budget and Finance in Higher Education and Intercollegiate Athletics” and “Career Mapping and Advancement. Chandler is a 2003 graduate of NACWAA/HERS and a 2007 graduate of the NACWAA Executive Institute.

Since Sandy Hatfield Clubb began her tenure as athletic director in 2006, Drake athletics has gained stature and prominence in the community and recognition nationwide. Hatfield Clubb's commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics is shown by the five Drake teams which advanced to NCAA and post-season play the last two years and the 235 student-athletes who achieved over a 3.0 GPA during the spring 2009 semester.

The appointment of Hatfield Clubb, who was the senior associate director of athletics and senior women’s administrator at Arizona State, further solidified Drake's reputation as a leading institution for the student-athlete experience. In her 16 years at Arizona State, Hatfield Clubb had a broad range of experience in all aspects of athletics administration, from direct oversight and administration of intercollegiate programs, compliance and academic support, management, personnel and budget, to fundraising and community relations. She had extensive experience in representing the university as a whole, to alumni, supporters, and the Greater Phoenix community, as well as national organizations and corporations.

She is a member of the NCAA Men's Basketball Issues Committee and the WBCA Committee on Basketball Issues. Hatfield Clubb also serves on the Board of Directors for Meals from the Heartland, The United Way, Character Counts in Iowa and the Iowa Sports Foundation.
Hatfield Clubb grew up in Bethesda, Md., and her husband, Jeff Clubb, is a native of Sigourney, Iowa. They are the parents of two children--a son, Tristan, and a daughter, Skyelar.

Dr. Joni Comstock joined the NCAA national office as Senior Vice President of Championships and Senior Woman Administrator in September 2006. Her duties include oversight of 84 NCAA championships, statistics, playing rules administration, media coordination efforts and serving as a member of the president’s senior management group.

Comstock brings extensive collegiate athletics leadership experience. She served for six years as a Division I Director of Athletics; three years at American University in Washington, D.C., and three years at the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Comstock served as Senior Associate Director of Athletics at Purdue University until 2000. She spent 11 years in the athletics program at Purdue. During that time, she was responsible for oversight of 13 sports programs including the 1999 NCAA National Championship Boilermaker women’s basketball team. Comstock also led compliance, academic services and other internal operations.

Comstock worked from 1983-1989 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, as an Assistant Athletics Director in charge of event management, marketing and summer camps for the women’s athletics programs.

Comstock received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education at Eastern Illinois University, and a master’s degree in education and sports management from Illinois State University. In 1987, she earned a doctorate in administration of higher education from the University of Illinois, Champaign.

Debbie Corum rejoined the Southeastern Conference staff in August 2000 as Associate Commissioner of Sports Administration. She arrived from Louisiana State University, where she held the position of Associate Director of Athletics for Olympic Sports from September 1996 through July 2000, after serving in a similar capacity at Stanford University for two years.

Corum has previously served as a member of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee and was the 2006 recipient of the NACWAA Conference/Organization Administrator of the Year. Corum served as an expert witness in Maudie vs. The University of Mississippi, and as an invited speaker for the U.S. Department of Education Secretary’s Commission on Opportunity in Athletics. Corum was a panelist at the 2007 NCAA Gender Equity and Issues Forum, discussing “Recruiting and Retaining Women in Coaching and Administration.” She also participated as a panelist at both the 2002 and 2003 NACUA (National Association of College and University Attorneys) Annual Conferences, speaking on “Hiring and Firing of Coaches” and “Athletics Reform,” respectively. In 2004, Corum was a panelist at the NACMA Convention, addressing the challenges of being female in the world of intercollegiate athletics. She chaired a panel discussion at the 2008 NACWAA Fall Forum on “Strategic Analysis of Crisis Management,” sharing lessons learned when an F-1 tornado hit the Georgia Dome during the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Corum received a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University in 1976. She also completed the executive programs offered by the Sports Management Institute in 1995, and the NACWAA’s Institute for Athletics Executives in 2004.

Debby De Angelis, Director of Athletics, California State University, East Bay (DII)

Debby De Angelis has served as the Director of Athletics at Cal State East Bay since 2001.  De Angelis serves as member of both the championships and the game management committees of the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association). Prior to the NCAA Division II transition process, De Angelis served as Vice President of the Association of Division III Independents and on the NCAA Division III Working Group of Membership Issues. She was vice chair of the NAIA Region II Management Council and served on the National Council of Collegiate Administrators.

On campus, De Angelis chaired the Community Policing Advisory Board and Homecoming Committee, and serves on a variety of other campus committees.  Locally she is a member of Hayward Rotary, having served as a board member, program committee and foundation chair.

Starting her sports career as a rower and rowing coach, De Angelis spent 23 years in Division I-AA coaching and working in the areas of business and internal operations at Northeastern, Cal State Northridge and Towson universities. A member of the 1975 USA women’s rowing team at the World Championships, De Angelis is an international umpire in rowing and served on the FISA Women and Youth Commissions from 1978 to 2009. She was the assistant manager for the USA women’s rowing team in 1976 and has officiated at three Olympics.

De Angelis has been recognized for her success and leadership in intercollegiate athletics administration. She was tapped as the 2006-2007 NAIA Region II Athletic Director of the Year. For 2008-09, she was named Astroturf NAIA West Region Athletic Director of the Year. She was named the NACWAA Administrator of the Year (NAIA) in 2008.

De Angelis obtained her master’s degree physical education/sports studies from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1979 and her bachelor’s degree in sociology from University of Calilfornia, Santa Barbara in 1970.

Carolyn Schlie Femovich, Executive Director, Patriot League (DI-FCS)

Carolyn Schlie Femovich was appointed as the fourth Executive Director of the Patriot League in July 1999. She brought 17 years of Division I experience and is one of five women to hold the top post of a combined men and women's conference at the NCAA Division I level.

Throughout her tenure at the Patriot League, Femovich has focused on key areas, including the development of a comprehensive multimedia package, expansion of League membership, improvement of League competitiveness and quality of services to the membership.

Femovich has served in national leadership positions with the NCAA as chair of the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, on the NCAA Management Council and Division I Women’s Basketball Committee as well as on numerous regional and national committees. She also served as chairperson of the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards Program, where she continues to serve as a board member, and is currently a member of the board of directors for NACWAA.

Prior to her appointment as Executive Director, Femovich served in leadership roles as Senior Associate Director, Interim Director of Athletics and Associate Director at the University of Pennsylvania from 1982-1999.

Femovich is a graduate of Valparaiso University and received a master of science degree from Indiana University. In 1975, she moved to Gettysburg College as head coach of women's basketball and tennis, assistant professor and Coordinator of Women's Athletics.

Lori, who is originally from West Chester, Pa., has been at Pitt-Bradford since 1998 and oversees all of the University's athletic programs. Under Mazza’s direction, Pitt-Bradford completed the transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III and increased the number of programs from nine to 14 teams, establishing men’s baseball and men’s and women’s swim and tennis teams. She also assisted in the design and renovation of the baseball, softball and soccer fields, the tennis courts and the $10 million Sport and Fitness Center.

Previously, she worked at Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., where she was the athletic director, head volleyball and basketball coach, and faculty/director of health and physical education. While working at Wesleyan College, she was named Coach of the Year in central Georgia.

She is a member of several athletic-related associations, including the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and the National Association for Division III Athletic Administrators.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends. She also loves to watch sports, cook and travel.

Erin McDermott joined Princeton in 2000 as an assistant director of athletics and was named executive associate director of athletics for operations in January 2010. Prior to Princeton, she spent three years at Columbia University as the assistant director for compliance.

McDermott’s current role at Princeton includes oversight of facility and event operations, athletic scheduling, and strength and conditioning. She also serves as the primary admissions liaison. Previously, McDermott oversaw NCAA and Ivy compliance, campus relations, and student-athlete wellness. She serves on University task forces and committees including the Spirit of Princeton Award Committee. McDermott is a member of the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet and is the Ivy liaison to the field hockey coaches and the Princeton liaison to ECAC Hockey.

A native of Westminster, Mass., McDermott graduated from Hofstra University in 1994, where she was captain of the women's basketball team and winner of the school's senior scholar-athlete award. She holds a bachelor’s of business administration in international business from Hofstra and a master's in sport management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

McDermott is a member of NACWAA and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

Joan McDermott is in her 14th year as the Director of Athletics at Metropolitan State College of Denver. During McDermott’s tenure, Metro State athletics have flourished, garnering four national championships (men’s basketball in 2000 and 2002, and women’s soccer in 2004 and 2006) and 20 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) championships. For the first time in 2006-07, the Roadrunners won the RMAC All-Sports Competition/Wells Fargo Cup, awarded to the conference’s most successful athletic program over the entire year. On a national level, men’s basketball has made 10 consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament, while volleyball has made eight straight trips, and women’s soccer has gone six consecutive times.

Through McDermott’s efforts, including the Athletic Department Auction and the Metro State Concert Series, corporate sponsorship and scholarship funds have increased substantially during her tenure. She has created more opportunities for Metro State student-athletes by orchestrating the addition of men’s and women’s cross country in 2005, men’s and women’s track in 2006-07 and women’s softball in 2007-08. The program now boasts 17 sports in all.

McDermott is committed to helping fuel the growth of college athletics. She is currently serving on the NCAA Division II Membership Committee and has previously served on the Executive Committee for NACDA. In addition, she has been a member of the NCAA Division II Management Council, including serving as vice chair, and has also been the chair of the NCAA Division II National Volleyball Committee and the chair of the NCAA Championship Committee.

Prior to her appointment as Director of Athletics in December 1998, McDermott coached the Metro State volleyball team for five years. The 1998 Southwest Region Coach of the Year, McDermott led the Roadrunners to the NCAA Tournament in four of her five seasons. In addition to serving as the volleyball coach, McDermott was the Senior Woman Administrator prior to her appointment as Director of Athletics.

McDermott has also coached volleyball at Morningside College, and volleyball and softball at St. Mary’s College. Her 1985 volleyball team at St. Mary’s captured the 1985 NAIA National Championship, and she received NAIA National Coach of the Year honors. In McDermott’s 17 years as a head volleyball coach, her teams posted 30 or more wins five different times, 20 or more wins 11 different times, and earned eight postseason bids.

In 1999, McDermott was named by the Denver Post as one of the 15 most powerful women in Colorado sports. She is a 1976 graduate of the University of San Francisco, and earned a master’s degree from Stanford in 1979. In addition, she has completed hours toward a doctorate in education from San Francisco.

A 28-year veteran of the Virginia athletics department, Jane Miller has served as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for programs since 2001. Miller serves on the University Calendar Committee, Admissions Committee and Judicial Review Board.

Miller is a member and Vice Chair of the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet, the Chair of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Committee (Women’s Division), the Chair of the ACC Women's Lacrosse Committee, and is a member of the ACC Women's Basketball Committee and Men's Lacrosse Committees.

Head coach of the University of Virginia women's lacrosse team for 12 seasons, Miller coached her teams to two National Championships and six Final Four appearances. She resigned her coaching duties in 1995 for a full-time administrative role.

Miller was elected to the Virginia chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1996, the New England chapter of the Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2000, and the U.S. Lacrosse National Hall of Fame and Oliver Ames High School Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2009, she received the President’s Award for Exemplary Service to the ACC. A native of Easton, MA, Miller graduated from Northeastern University in 1973 and was elected to her alma mater’s Hall of Fame in 1983.

Barbara Osborne, Esq., is an Associate Professor in the Exercise and Sport Science department at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). She has directed the graduate and undergraduate programs in sport management, and teaches a variety of sport management courses. Her current research focuses on legal issues in intercollegiate athletics, Title IX, and women’s issues in sport.  

Prior to her appointment at UNC, Barbara worked for 14 years as an administrator in intercollegiate athletics. She has also had experience as a coach, public relations coordinator, television sports commentator, publisher and sports information director.

As an attorney, Barbara is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and Massachusetts. She has served as the Chair of the Sport and Entertainment Law section of the North Carolina Bar Association, as well as a member of the Sport Lawyers Association and the Sport and Recreation Law Association. A life-long athlete, Barbara has been recognized for her contributions to sport by the Kenosha Sports Hall of Fame and the MAIAW Rowlands Award for Outstanding Achievement in Women’s Sports.

Anucha Browne Sanders begins her fourth year at the University at Buffalo. In her position, Browne Sanders leads the areas of ticket sales, corporate marketing, event management and game promotions as well as serves as the Senior Woman Administrator. In her capacity as Senior Associate Athletic Director, she also serves as the administrator for the women’s basketball, volleyball and softball programs.

Browne Sanders brings impressive credentials to Buffalo, as she most recently spent six years as the Senior Vice President for Marketing and Business Operations for the New York Knicks. While with the Knicks, Browne Sanders oversaw the marketing efforts of the Knicks, including ticket sales, advertising and design, fan development, event presentation, community relations, field marketing, alumni relations, new media and special events. In 2002, she was named one of the Sports Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40 Sports Executives.”

Prior to joining the Knicks, Browne Sanders spent 11 years with IBM Corporation. A 1985 graduate of Northwestern University, Browne Sanders had an outstanding career with the Wildcats’ women’s basketball team. She earned a master’s degree in communications from Florida State University.

Faith Shearer, Associate Director of Athletics/SWA, Elon University (DI-FCS)

Faith Shearer joined the Elon staff in 2002 after serving at Johns Hopkins University for three years as its Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation and Senior Woman Administrator.

Shearer currently oversees the Phoenix volleyball, softball, cross country, track and field and women’s basketball programs. She also coordinates academic support and admissions for the department.

Shearer serves on the NCAA Women of the Year Selection Committee. She has previously served as chair of the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and was a member of the NCAA Olympic Sport Liaison Committee.

A 1994 Smith College graduate, Shearer holds a bachelor of arts in economics. Shearer was a four-year member of the Smith volleyball team, captaining her senior year squad. She went on to earn a master’s of science in organizational development and human resources at Johns Hopkins in 2001.
