NCAA Decertifies 16 More Preparatory Schools

The National Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Wednesday that it will stop certifying transcripts from 16 more preparatory schools with dubious credentials, bringing to 25 the number of nontraditional high schools that have failed to clear the association’s tightened academic requirements.

The NCAA began scrutinizing suspected diploma mills in April, four months after an investigation by The New York Times found that prep schools in several states were providing fake grades to athletes so they could play college sports. Since then the NCAA has looked closely at about 100 schools based on questionable course content or other irregularities in their academic records.
